Understanding the User Experience in
AI & Mental Health Applications
Hello!
My name is Dr. Ellen Choi and I am the principal investigator of the research project you are being invited to participate in. We are interested in understanding how people use AI in supporting their mental health and specifically, we’re interested in your experience using ClareandMe.com. We hope that by learning what you liked, disliked, and how you used their services, we will learn more about how and why AI related technologies can support (or hinder) mental health and well-being.
This research study is being conducted by Drs. Ellen Choi and Burcu Bulgurcu, Associate Professors from Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University in collaboration with Lea Shäfer, Chief Scientific Officer, at ClareandMe.com.
ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for this study, you need to be 19 years of age or older, fluent in English, and have experience using ClareandMe.com for a minimum of 3-months time. A maximum of 100 participants are needed for this study.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ASKED TO DO:
If you volunteer to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following things:
Complete a survey that asks you questions about your demographics (age, gender, ethnicity, income bracket, profession, habitation, and level of education)
Complete survey assessments that measure your psychological state (e.g., stress, loneliness), attitudes towards app, and behaviours (app utilization).
Participate in a 60-minute focus group or interview on Zoom with your audio and video on (recordings will be deleted after transcription).
Permit the research team to link your ClareandMe.com user patterns to your responses (please note that no content will be accessed or analyzed in this process).
CONFIDENTIALITY:
All survey and interview data collected will remain confidential and accessible only to the investigators of this study. If the results are published, your name and any potential identifying information will not be used. If you choose to withdraw from this study, your data will be removed and deleted from our database. We will use a numeric code to link the study data with your survey questionnaire and interview responses. Audio Zoom recordings will be saved until they are transcribed, and then all Zoom recordings will be deleted entirely. Therefore, your identity will remain confidential.
